I had a survey running, it was aimed at women experiencing peri to post menopause. There were some interesting insights and some interesting answers, but these are the three biggest frustrations that came up for the respondents:
These are issues we all have as we age, but women have the added challenge of hormonal change around menopause. Combine this natural change with the extra stressors we place our bodies under every day, and you have a recipe for all types of health issues like those listed above.
Here are some of the major stressors in no particular order:
The list goes on, and you could probably add many things to it, but I am sure you get the picture.
Lump these all together (and most of us have these going on simultaneously and on a daily basis) and you will have a hard time remaining unstressed.
Stress upsets your hormone balance in your body even further and inevitably you gain weight, can’t lose it or keep it off, your energy levels drop and you get joint pain from either arthritis or being overweight or some other systemic imbalance.
Most of us have had these stressors going on for years and years, so they’ve become habits! So ingrained that most of the time we don’t notice them on a conscious level. It is no wonder that by the time you hit your mid 40’s those three frustrations above arise with added extras!
But you can improve if you are prepared to work at it and invest in your health and wellbeing.
The first step is acknowledgement. Acknowledgement that you have stress in the first place.
Then you need have a look at the areas of your life where you are experiencing that stress.
Then you have to make a plan to address it.
Here are some action steps to help you with this:
It will take time, but your body and your hormones will love you for it. Stress management is part of a healthy lifestyle and is something that you should make a priority. Better stress management will help you with that inability to lose or keep off weight, joint pain, and low energy. It will help you better manage the change that happens at menopause.
